Solid Waste & Recycling Services
FAQs
I live in town and have very little garbage. Can I cancel my garbage service?
Everyone within the city limits of Georgetown is required to receive garbage service from the City. This is how we guarantee that the entire City is handled by a licensed and responsible solid waste provider that maintains the high standards set by the City. Utility customers outside the city limits have the option of using the City’s solid waste and recycling contractor or another service provider.
What exactly can I put out at the curb on my garbage day?
Residents are allowed to put out one City-provided trash cart plus 5 additional bags or bundles in their weekly pickup. Residents may choose their cart size, available in 32-gallon, 64-gallon, or 96-gallon carts. There are no price differentials. Household garbage and brush, if properly bundled are collected (brush must be cut in 4-ft lengths and tied in bundles weighing no more than 35 pounds each.) No loose brush or limbs, bulky waste or toxic material will be picked up.
What is considered bulky waste and how do I get rid of it?
Bulky waste is any large or heavy item or material such as furniture, mattresses, toilets, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, batteries, tires, bikes, boards, construction material, etc. In-City residents are allowed to bring 2 cubic yards of waste to the Collection Station at 250 W.L. Walden Dr (off North College St) free each month, and can dispose of additional waste for $8 per cubic yard. Please bring your current City of Georgetown utility bill and a photo ID. You can also call TDS at (512) 930-1715 to schedule a bulky waste curbside pickup. This service is provided on Saturday at no additional cost to in-City residents. For residential customers living outside the City limits, curbside bulky waste service is not available. Waste may be brought to the Collection Station and the cost is $14/cubic yard. The cost for commercial customers is $18/cubic yard.
Does the Collection Station take any hazardous waste?
The Collection Station does not accept any household hazardous waste such as paint or paint products, insecticides, pesticides, cleaning or refinishing products or chemicals, medical waste, ammunition, explosives, gas or gas products. Residential utility customers may use the Household Hazardous Waste voucher program. Please refer to the section on Hazardous Waste for more information and instructions on how to request a voucher. If there is a question as to the acceptability of any item, please call TDS at (512) 930-1715 before you transport an item to the Collection Station.
